The Gift of Purpose

  • Sep 28, 2009
  • Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life…with your right hand you save me. Psalm 138:7

Article - Trina RobertsonBefore coming to work at the Classy Rack thrift store five months ago, Trina Robertson was despondent. The mere act of eating left her drained. She wouldn’t shower for days, wouldn’t leave her house for months. She described her depression as a heaviness that surrounded her and pressed in upon her. Life had no purpose. Though Trina became a Christian two years ago, the sense of futility remained. It was actually accentuated by guilt. “I should be doing something with my life,” she thought, and yet the act of leaving the house overwhelmed her.

Through a series of what Trina calls “God moments” and multiple baby steps on her part, she applied for and got a job at the downtown Classy Rack, and the Trina you might meet there today is a new woman. She sees the environment as safe, healthy, almost therapeutic, and her face shows her inner change. She enjoys coming to work, listening to Christian music, praying with people. She has accountability and encouragement. She has peace, joy, hope and a sense of purpose.

Our thrift store managers foster a community of mutual respect, mutual trust and mutual benefit. The staff prays together and prays with and for customers. They take the time to listen to life’s challenges and offer prayerful support to those in need.
