The Crisis Shelter for Women and Children exists to provide a safe, healthy, short-term refuge for women and children in crisis.  Housed in an old motel, the layout of the shelter allows each family to have their own room. Single women typically share a room. A playground for younger children was created adjacent to the facility, providing a safe, clean, play area for the children at the shelter and in the surrounding neighborhood.

Director Rich Schaus on his goals for the Crisis Shelter: “Most of these women are all too familiar with conditional love. We’re trying to give them a taste of Christ’s love,  which means loving them just as they are, in the middle of their personal chaos and helping to keep them safe. Water to the thirsty. Food to the hungry. Shelter for the homeless. The basics.”

2009 Statistics:

  • Nights of lodging provided: 15,443
  • Meals served:  30,236
  • Total individuals served:  1,063
  • Average guests per night:  42
