Reaching AT-Risk Children And Teens

Our Youth Outreach program equips churches and other organizations to reach at-risk children and youth through leadership training and a quality camping facility.
Children in the underprivileged neighborhoods of our city do not always see a future bright with options. Their scope can be limited to what they see immediately around them - poverty, unemployment, drugs and alcohol. The Mission's Youth Outreach program seeks to widen those horizons through a variety of hands-on, relationship-building methods:
- Tshimakain Creek Summer Camp, which is provided free-of-charge to children from low-income neighborhoods;
- Year-round partnerships with local youth groups; and
- Weekly ministry at juvenile detention.
With the Mission's shelters seeing an increasing number of men and women in the 18-25 age range, the goal of our Youth Outreach is to "catch kids before they fall."

A week at Tshimakain Creek Camp involves all the activities you’d expect – crafts, swimming, fishing, challenge and archery courses, canoeing, and more – and in the midst of all that fun, counselors are building relationships, sharing the love of Jesus Christ, and encouraging kids to see a future full of limitless possibilities. You can give all that to a child who would not otherwise be able to afford it for just $87. Visit our camp page.>

Did You know?
A group of volunteers meets at Spokane County's Juvenile Hall every Wednesday night to listen, pray and worship with the teenagers incarcerated there. Danny Beard, who has led the group for 28 years, explained his long-term commitment like this: "Jesus has called me to be faithful. We come every week and talk to the kids about what it means to know Christ and live the way He wants. I keep motivated because we are planting seeds in hearts, and if we don't, who will?"
Danny is joined by a faithful group of some of the Mission's longest-serving volunteers.
